Notes, Mechanics and Adventure Seeds

We're into the meat of the story. Adventures taking place during the time of Uther Pendragon's bloody war to unify the Britons under his control will generally center on the civil wars taking place all around the British Countryside. Servitors of War and the War will find ample grist for their trade, as Angels and Demons alike try to work their influence on differing war factions. With Rome's influence minimal and growing less, the Britons are a terrific place for petty despots to force their will through strength of arms.

It is, clearly, an area where Demonic influence has sway, at least for now. Selfishness is rampent. Indeed, Arthur's true Destiny is to found a Kingdom where the Rule of Law is Selfless instead of Selfish -- an example that will ring true in legends for centuries to come. Most Angels will simply be trying to reduce the carnage and drive out Demons where possible.

Among the Druidic people, where a sense of order already exists, the war is one between Roman corruption of their core beliefs, the slow rise of Christianity and the need to keep their secrets fast. Many Chieftains -- Uther included -- respect the Druids far more than the Romans, and curry their favor in hopes of rallying their followers to their banner.

Merlin is seen by many as a Druid -- speaking in prophecy and mystery and showing powers that are not easily understood. However, true Druids are far less likely to

...and so, soon after, the lady and Merlin departed, and by the way Merlin showed her many wonders, and came into Cornwall. And always Merlin lay about the lady to have her maidenhood, and she was ever passing weary of him, and fain would have been delivered of him, for she was afeard of him because he was a devil's son, and she could not beskift him by no mean. And so on a time it happed that Merlin showed to her in a rock whereas was a great wonder, and wrought by enchantment, that went under a great stone. So by her subtle working she made Merlin to go under that stone to let her wit of the marvels there but she wrought so there for him that he came never out for all the craft he could do. And so she departed and left Merlin.

This Passage is from Morte D'Artur by Malory, Page 103 (Book 4 of Volume One) on the loss of Merlin. Note that it implies things that are not true. Nimue was not the name of Merlin's Paramour but the name of a Shedite of Lust possessing the young Woman of the Lake (Niniane), driving the girl to prostitute herself (exploiting Merlin's Lustful Discord) and corrupt what was growing between the Seraph and the Soldier of God he was training.

Characters

Merlin
Angel of Foreknowledge
Seraph Friend of _____________

Merlin is a powerful angel and Servitor of Destiny. Having been a part of Destiny's work from the very earliest days, Merlin has grown to be quite powerful. Despite his age and experience, he does have some problems however -- not the least of which is an inability to understand humanity worse than most Seraphim. This lack has caused him trouble from the earliest days of his mission on Earth.

Merlin is in Britain because he has foreseen a delicate time ahead -- a time when Destiny and Fate are closely tied together for an entire region of the British Isles.
