We've been doing network upgrades all this week, which has us hopping. For those of you who have a technical bent, we're going from a flat 10-base-T network based on hubs to a 10/100-base-T network based on switches. For those of you not on a technical bent, 'we're going from okay-fast to really fast.'
We figured that out when we did test downloads last night. We were getting close to the maximum download speed possible on a T-1 line out. What the switches do is filter out any network traffic unrelated to the specific port a specific process is using. Apparently, when you do that, things start flying. We're very happy and also quite busy. The Webmaster job search continues. We've sent out a series of e-mails to the 'second rounders' with a test mock-up. The prospects will code up their HTML, send them in and we'll get a clearer idea of what they're capable of and we can go from there. In other words, it's a technological week! And I don't have much time for this entry. |
